Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank mobilizes resources to fight hunger in Los Angeles County. To fulfill its mission, the Food Bank sources and acquires food and other products and distributes them to needy people through charitable agencies or directly through programs. It also energizes the community to get involved and support hunger relief and conducts hunger education and awareness campaigns and advocates for public policies that alleviate hunger.

In 2012, the Food Bank distributed $51.5 million worth of food and grocery products to a network of 653 partner organizations or directly through its programs. More than one million residents of Los Angeles County received food from an agency served by the Food Bank. 

Its offerings include:
• The Children's Nutrition programs that provide healthy after-school snacks at to 4,000 children daily at 29 Kid Cafe sites and weekend backpacks full of nutritious food for children at 12 elementary schools.

• The Senior Nutrition programs that provide monthly food bags to more than 23,000 serniors at 120 senior program sites, and grocery bags full of food and fresh produce to an additional 9,000 low-income seniors per month through its Brown Bag and HEAL programs.

• The Nutrition and CalFresh Outreach programs, which educate children and their families about the importance of healthy nutrition and life style choices and helps low-income, food insecure individuals and families to determine their eligibility to access the CalFresh program.
