Taproot Foundation

Most organizations tackling social problems don’t have access to the marketing, design, technology, management or strategic planning resources they need to succeed. Without this talent, few are able to have their intended impact on critical issues like the environment, health and education.

Taproot is a nonprofit organization that makes business talent available to organizations working to improve society.

Taproot engages the nation’s millions of business professionals in pro bono services both through its award-winning programs and by partnering with companies to develop their pro bono programs. It envisions that one day, all organizations with promising solutions will be equipped to successfully take on urgent social challenges.

While working to expand the impact of pro bono services nationally by leading the pro bono movement, Taproot concentrates its efforts for social impact within five metro areas where it has offices, including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, the San Francisco Bay area, and Washington, D.C.

Unlike traditional foundations that make cash grants, Taproot makes grants of professional consulting services, called Service Grants. Every Service Grant is delivered pro bono by a team of 5-6 business professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to help a nonprofit in their community. At any given time, Taproot Los Angeles is working with 50-80 of the most promising nonprofits in the Los Angeles area.

Recently, the Taproot Foundation partnered with the Center for Nonprofit Management and the Nonprofit Finance Fund to develop a Capacity-Building Information Exchange for Los Angeles.

Taproot’s Advisory Services Program supports companies and organizations in designing and developing their own customized, high-impact pro bono programs.
