Vision To Learn
As many as 20 percent of K-5 students in Los Angeles Unified School District elementary schools have untreated vision problems. When children are unable to see the chalkboard or their schoolwork, it dramatically impacts their learning. Some children with poor vision are labeled “disruptive” or “learning disabled,” or even diagnosed with ADHD.
Vision To Learn provides free vision exams and free glasses to elementary school students in Los Angeles’ low-income communities. Providing glasses to the estimated 20,000-40,000 children who need them helps children fulfill their learning potential and succeed in life.
Vision To Learn’s Mobile Eye Clinic travels to schools where its optometrists and opticians conduct free eye exams and fit children for free eyeglasses. Kids select their own frames and receive their glasses approximately two weeks thereafter
Vision To Learn was founded by visionary business leader and philanthropist Austin Beutner and his wife Virginia. Partners include the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Fund for Public Education.
