Austin Beutner

As a visionary business leader, philanthropist, and now, educational administrator, Austin Beutner has built organizations and led them to achieve outstanding results.

Four years previously, Austin served as the publisher of the Los Angeles Times for approximately one year.

In April 2012, Austin and his wife, Virginia, launched Vision to Learn, a nonprofit that gives free eye exams and free glasses to every child who needs them in Los Angeles elementary schools.

A former candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles in 2012, Austin was previously recruited by Mayor Villaraigosa and business leaders to make the city’s government more efficient, effective, and business friendly. As the First Deputy Mayor and Chief Executive for Economic and Business Policy (also known as the Jobs Czar) in 2011, Austin oversaw 13 city departments for a salary of $1 dollar a year.

Austin has spent most of his career working in the private sector. At age 29, he became the youngest partner at The Blackstone Group, one of the world’s leading investment firms. At 33, he served in the U.S.. State Department under President Bill Clinton, where he led a team that helped Russia transition to a market economy. He went on to co-found Evercore Partners, which became a leading international investment firm.

Austin is deeply involved in the community. He serves on many boards and commissions including CalArts, The Broad Stage, Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation, ICEF Public Schools and ACT Today, among others.
