Reformation
Reformation is an eco-conscious clothing company for women that has become a fashion phenomenon. It's known for cool, no harm fashion that is affordable for young creatives and professionals and popular with trend setters like Taylor Swift.
The firm's founder, Yael Aflalo, began her fashion career by reworking vintage clothing into contemporary pieces. A trip to a clothing factory in China spewing pollutants was a turning point for her. Yael educated herself regarding the environmental waste associated with the fashion industry ("the number two user of water in the world, after agriculture"), and she decided to establish a company that produces "killer clothes without killing the environment."
With assistance from the Los Angeles Mayor's Office, Yael turned a 35,000 square foot space in Boyle Heights into the country's first sustainable sewing factory. In 2014, Reformation made $25 million.
