Kantara
Kantara is a design business specializing in Fair Trade rugs and home furnishings that are handwoven in women's weaving cooperatives throughout Morocco's Atlas Mountains.
Kantara, meaning "bridge" or "arch" in Arabic, is deeply rooted in its commitment to fair and ethical trade. The company works closely with these highly skilled Moroccan artisants to curate and design the best rugs, pillows, and home decor for modern living.
Alia Kate founded Kantara in 2009 after falling in love with the art, the design, and the individual womens' stories that were woven into each of these unique Moroccan carpets. While living and working in Morocco, she became thoroughly inspired by the tenacity of the women weavers in rural Morocco and by their commitment to a craft that goes back generations and generations.
Alia currently lives and works in Los Angeles between trips to Morocco.
