InsideOUTWriters
The mission of InsideOUT Writers (IOW) is to reduce the juvenile recidivism rate by providing a range of services that meet the needs of currently and formerly incarcerated youth and young adults.
IOW uses creative writing as a catalyst for personal transformation. The participating young people, who are incarcerated in Los Angeles County penal institutions, are empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully re-integrate into our communities, becoming advocates for their future. The writing program includes instruction, journaling, and retreats.
IOW also has alumni programs that provide a continuum of activities and support to its participants, including case management, mentoring, writing circles, life skills enrichment sessions, public speaking, and cultural events/field trips.
